What is Driet: the drinking diet?

The 'driet' is quite simply a drinking diet. In the same way that people watch their calories and go on a food diet when they want to lose weight or improve their overall health, the driet works the same way but with a specific focus on alcoholic drinks:

It challenges you to think about the number of alcoholic drinks you consume (as well as their strength) to help you cut down your alcohol intake and reap the potential numerous health benefits, which include weight loss, better skin and increased energy

Like diets, the driet will be different for everybody depending on how much you currently drink and the results you are hoping to achieve. However to take the driet challenge you should:

Reduce your drinking to just one or two drinks per day (depending on size and strength of your drinks)

NHS guidelines state that:

  • Women should not drink more than 2-3 units per day (about a medium sized glass of wine)
  • Men should not drink more than 3-4 units (a little more than a pint of strong lager)

Try not to drink every day

Any reduction in alcohol is beneficial to your health, however, to get the best results you will need to cut your drinking down to the above levels and stick at it.

For some people, this may mean cutting down your drinking by 50% or more, for others it may be as simple as just saying ‘no’ to one or two extra glasses of wine at the weekend.
